Promoting, Demoting or Moving Objects

Object relationships in the contents of a Book or Index are arranged in a hierarchy. You will need to promote, demote, and move objects around to get them into the order you want.

Contents Move Buttons
Use the Promote, Demote, Move Up, and Move Down buttons on the Book or Index toolbar to move your objects around. You can also use the shortcut menu, drag and drop, or even Cut, Copy and Paste.

To Promote, Demote, or Move an Object:

  1. In the Book or Index Contents, select the object you want to move.
  2. Promote, demote, or move the object, using:
    • The Contents toolbar (Book Contents Toolbar, Index Entries Toolbar) buttons
    • The pop-up shortcut menu
    • Drag and drop with the mouse

Note: Some of the options may be disabled because they are not valid. For example, you cannot demote an object that is the first branch in a tree.

  3. If you drag and drop, the object is moved to directly beneath the object you drop it on
