Copying the Text of Another Topic

If you're creating a topic whose content differs only slightly from the content of another, you have a couple of options:

  • Use an embedded topic for the common part of both topics. This is good when you want to be able to update both topics at once.
  • Copy the text from one topic into the other. This is good when you want to be able to update one topic without affecting the other.

Let's look at that second option. You can use standard Copy and Paste to achieve your aim, but there is also another way.

To Copy the Text of Another Topic:

  1. Open the topic you want to copy some text into (the target topic).
  2. From the Library Explorer or the Book's Contents, select the topic whose contents you want to copy (the source topic).
  3. Drag the source topic and drop it into position inside the target topic. A shortcut menu is displayed.
  4. Choose Paste As Text. The contents of the source topic are pasted into the target topic.

Note: The source topic is not linked in any way to the target topic, and changes in the source do not affect the target.

  5. Save your changes.
