Finding and Replacing Text in a Topic

Author-it Live's Find and Find/Replace features are used when you are locating or replacing text (either a single character or words) in your topic. Both Find and Find/Replace work at topic level, searching the text in the Topic currently open in the Topic Editor.

The Topic is searched from the location of the cursor, to the end (direction set to search down) or beginning (direction set to search up) of the topic.

To Find Text in a Topic:

  1. Select Find from the Topic Toolbar. The Find dialog box is displayed.
  2. Type the text you are looking for in the Find what field.
  3. Select Match case if you only want to find text that matches the case of the text you typed, otherwise all occurrences of the text will be found regardless of case.
  4. Select the search direction.
  5. Select Find Next to begin searching. Author-it Live highlights finds the first occurrence of the text. You can make changes to the topic as usual.
  6. Save the changes to the topic.

To Find and Replace Text:

  1. Select Replace from the Topic Toolbar. The Find and Replace dialog box is displayed.
  2. Type the text you are looking for in the Find what field.
  3. Type the replacement text in the Replace with field.
  4. Select Match case when replacement text should use the same case as the Replace with field, otherwise replacement text will match the case of the text found in the topic.
  5. Select the search direction.
  6. Select Find Next to begin searching. Author-it Live finds the first occurrence of the text and highlights it.
    • To replace that occurrence of highlighted text, choose the Replace. Author-it Live replaces the selected text, and highlights the next occurrence of the text.
    • To skip replacing this occurrence of the highlighted text, choose Find Next and move to the next occurrence of the text.
    • To replace all occurrences of the text in the topic, choose Replace All.

A message box is displayed when you have searched the entire topic, choose OK to close the message box.

  7. Save the changes to the topic.

Note: If no occurrences of the text are found in the topic, a message appears, choose OK to close the message window. You may want to try searching again, this time specifying different text.
