Selecting Books to Translate

The first step in the Localization Wizard is selecting the books that will be included in the translation job.

A book object can represent an entire manual, or a chapter within a manual. In order to translate individual chapters in a manual each chapter must be created as a sub book.

Choosing a master book adds the master book and all of its sub books to the list. When sub books are added to the list the master book should always be added, even when you only want to translate one or some of its sub books. This is because variable replacements required later in the wizard might only be applied to the master book.

When sub books have been added to the list you have the option of creating a translation job (per locale) for each selected book, or creating one translation job (per locale) containing all of the selected books. Note, the second option will still create a separate translation job if a book contains sub books.

At least one book must be added to the book list to continue to the next step. You can remove individual books from the book list by selecting the book and then choosing the Remove button.

Note: If you are returning content for re-translation using the Translation Override step select one book per job.

To Add Books to the Translation Job:

  1. In Select Books to Translate choose Add.

  2. The Select a Book Object dialog box appears displaying the library's folders. Select the folder containing the book you want to add to the list.
  3. Select the book and and choose OK.

  4. Repeat the steps until you have added all of the books for this translation job. Select or clear each of the check boxes next to individual books to add or exclude them from the translation job. If you include a master book in the list you have two options:
    • Select the master book when it contains content that needs to be translated. Variables or metadata assigned to the book will be included in the translation job.
    • Clear the check box when the book does not contain translatable content. In this case any variables or metadata will still be included in the translation job.

Note: Books can be removed from the book list by selecting the book and choosing the Remove button.

      Choose translation option

  5. Choose one of the following options for creating the translation job:
    • Create a translation job for each book - creates a translation job for each master book that has been selected in the book list. When this option is chosen the variables for the selected sub book are resolved relative to its main book.
    • Create one translation job for all books - creates one translation job file for all books selected (when the books do not contain sub books). Note, this option creates a separate translation job when the book contains sub books.
  6. Choose Next to continue to the Select Overwrite Options step.
