Viewing the Published Output

Using the console you can publish documents and view the newly created output files, or search for previously created output files. The History Filter provides options for searching for all completed publishing jobs for a document (regardless of who submitted the job), or you can limit the search results to your own publishing jobs or jobs submitted during a specified time period.

The console's right pane displays the completed jobs, with the output's icon, the date the job was completed, and links to view or republish. When you choose View Author-it Live Editor opens the output files in a browser window (for example, HTML, XHTML), or displays a file download message box giving you the option open file, or save to local machine (for example, Word, PDF, HTML Help). If you choose Republish a new publishing job is submitted for the book using that output.

Note: To view your document's outputs, you need to have the correct run time components for each output format installed on your computer. In particular, to view JavaHelp or Oracle Help for Java output you'll need the Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE).

To Search For and View Existing Publishing Jobs:

  1. Select the book from the publish list in the Select Book to Publish area.
  2. Choose the options from the History Filter, or select All Jobs to show a complete publishing history for the book.
  3. Choose Show Jobs, the results are displayed in the summary pane.
  4. Choose View to open or the output files or save the files to your local machine.
