Setting the Spell Checker Options

The Author-it built in spell checker has several options that control how and when the spell checking is performed, the number of suggested words displayed, and what Dictionary is used. You may want to change these options depending on how you prefer to work, and on the particular documents you're working on.

To Set the Spell Checker Options:

  1. In the main window, choose the Author-it Button > Author-it Options > Spelling

    -or-

In the Editor choose Review > Spell Check > Dialog Box Launcher.

    The User Options window opens.

    Spelling Options Tab

  2. Change the options as required.
  3. Choose OK. The spelling options are saved and the window closes.

Spell check objects on exit

When this option is selected, Author-it automatically performs a spell check on an object when you close it, provided that changes have been made. Author-it checks the spelling in all fields of all objects.

Spell check as I type

When editing the Topic text, description and headings, a red wavy underline is shown under any unknown words. Right-clicking displays a list of suggested words, along with the options to Ignore All or to Add the word to the dictionary.

Maximum suggested words

Controls the maximum number of suggested words in the shortcut menu. The range of maximum number of suggested words is between 1 to 10.

Note: This setting does not affect the number of suggested words when a full spell check is completed.

Dictionary

Displays a list of available dictionaries. The Dictionaries are located in sub-folders in the Dictionaries folder, and are copied to the Author-it folder only when selected. Dictionaries may be created from specially formatted word lists using the Author-it Administrator.
