Creating a Noise Words List

Author-it Xtend can be set to exclude Noise Words from the search. Noise Words are the common or filler words used in sentences, for example, the, to, is, and, or, etc, and are of no benefit in the search.

The Noise words list is configured from the Reuse Search window.

Author-it Xtend calculates how many times each word is used in the library and stores the results in the Common Words list. The list includes a Use Count column so you can see how many times the word appears in the library.

To Create a Noise Words List:

  1. In the Editor choose Edit > Xtend > Advanced Search. The Advanced Search window opens.
  2. Choose the [...] button next to Noise Words. The Noise Words dialog box is displayed showing any words that have already been added.
  3. Choose Add to display the Common Words list. The columns in the list can be re-sorted by clicking on any of the three column headers.
  4. Select the words you want to exclude from the search and choose OK.

The Common Words list is closed and the selected words are added to the Noise Words window.

  5. Choose OK to save the list and close the Noise Words dialog box.
