What Happens When You Don't Check In a Library

When you create an offline library the objects you checked out are locked in the main library and made available for editing in the offline library. After you have finished working in the offline library check it in again to update and synchronize the content in the main library. When the library is checked in the locks are removed from the objects, making them available for other users to edit.

Tip: When you take the offline library to work in leave a copy at the location specified in the offline library properties. While a copy remains at this location Author-it disables the option to create a new offline library.

What happens if you don't check in an offline library?

If an offline library is not checked in the objects in the main library remain locked. If the offline library is lost or deleted the locks will have to be cleared using the Author-it Administrator.

What happens to objects if a new offline library is created before checking in the first offline library?

There are some situations when a new offline library can be created before an existing offline library is checked in. This occurs when the option to create a new offline library is enabled. It can occur when:

• a copy of the offline library was not left at the location in the offline library properties.
• the name of the offline library was changed.
• the offline library locks were removed in the Administrator.

When an offline library has not been checked in the objects remain locked in the main library, and objects that were checked out will still be visible in the offline library folder. New objects can be checked out and added to the offline library folder at any time while offline authoring is enabled. If a new offline library is created all objects that have been checked out or made available offline will be added to the new offline library.

Important: If you have created more than one offline library ensure you check in the latest offline library file. This ensures you do not overwrite new content or modifications in the main library.
