Move the Data Folder

In a multi-user environment, the Data folder containing the shared components needs to be moved to a network location so everybody in the team has access to the same files. Author-it 5.0 also has an updated sample library and tutorial.

We suggest moving the local Data folder installed with Author-it 5.0 to a shared network location. You can also copy the files from your existing Data folder you backed up earlier, so you can carry out your testing in a familiar environment.

Important: Ensure you move a copy of your production library for testing and not your real one. If your production library is upgraded, you will no longer be able to open it in Version 4, and will need to revert to a backup.

The upgrade can be an ideal opportunity to perform a little bit of housekeeping on your Data folder and clean out any unused files. We suggest using the external files report in Author-it Administrator to ensure that you have copied across all files referenced by Author-it.

Once you have moved the Author-it 5 Data folder, we recommend the local copy is deleted to avoid confusion and the possibility of ending up with multiple copies of the same library and template files.
