The Process of Checking In an Offline Library

When an offline library is checked in, Author-it goes through the following process:

  1. All new objects created offline are reassigned object IDs from the main library. The offline library is updated with these object IDs. This is to prevent any double-ups of object IDs. Where possible, the original IDs will be preserved.
  2. A list of templates and styles that have been modified in the main library, while the offline library was checked out, is created.
  3. A list of objects that were created or edited in the offline library is created.
  4. Each object in turn is copied back into the main library, the following procedure is used:
    • For objects that have been edited, Author-it looks for a lock in the main library to indicate it was checked-out. If it is there (or the object is a new object) then…
    • If it is based on a template, or has a style that has been modified while it was offline, the style or template is reapplied to the object.
    • The object is saved into the main library.
  5. If there are no problems with the check in of objects the offline library will be deleted (moved to your recycling bin) on completion of check in.
  6. During this process, the log file created at check out will have additional information appended to it relating to all successful and unsuccessful check-ins.
