Converting an Existing Object to a Variant

Existing objects can be converted to be variants of other objects. This is particularly useful when you already have content and want to start using variants.

To Convert an Existing Object to a Variant of Another Object:

  1. Select the object in the folder object list that you want to convert to a variant.
  2. Choose Manage > Variants > Convert to Variant

    -or-

    Right-click and choose Variant > Convert to Variant. The Make Variant window is opened.

  3. Select the [...] button next to the Make [object] a variant of: field.

    The Author-it Quick Search window opens. Locate the object that will be the parent object, then choose OK. The object description is added to the Make [object] a variant of: field.

  4. Select the checkbox next to the criteria you want to assign, then add the criteria value.
  5. Choose OK to create the variant.
