Removing a Link Between a Variant and Parent Object

There may be situations where you need to break the link between a variant and its parent object. This is achieved using the Remove option.

In this scenario two variant objects have been created from the parent.

  • There is a link (relationship) between the primary object (1) and the variant object (2). The primary object provides the relationship between the book and the variant.
  • When the link is broken object 2 no longer has a relationship to the primary object or the book, and is no longer displayed when the book is filtered.
  • When the link is broken the variant is converted to a standard object. This enables the object to be used in relationships with other objects (such as books or topics).

Link Between Objects Broken

To Remove a Variant's Association to a Parent Object:

  1. Select a variant object in the folder object list.
  2. Choose Manage > Variants > Remove

    -or-

Right-click and choose Variants > Remove Variant Association. The link is removed.
