Indicates Author-it has used a preferred match to select the object used in the book. This occurs when multiple criteria are selected in the filter and more than one object could be used. In this case the criteria priority setting is used to decide which object is used.

Note: Options for working with variants are not displayed in Author-it until variant criteria have been created in Author-it Administrator.
To View Variants in a Book:
- Open the book and display the criteria filter in the book contents pane. If the filter is collapsed, click on the arrow to expand it.

- Select the criteria then choose the relevant values from the dropdown lists.
- Choose Apply. The book is filtered and displays variants that match the selected criteria and values, variants with preferred matches if only some of the criteria and values match, or primary objects if the criteria and values do not match.
To Display the Variants in the Folder's Object List:
- Select a folder. The object list displays both standard and primary objects.
- Choose Manage > Variants > View. The object list also displays each of the variants created from the primary objects. All primary and variant objects are highlighted - the primary objects are highlighted with a yellow background and the variants with a pale yellow. Variants also display the variant icon and their variation criteria.
You can also view variant objects in the search results list, but you must select the view option before you use the search options.
