Filtering a Book
When a book is first opened it displays the standard objects which are common to all variations of the document, and the primary objects (where variants are created for different variations of the document).
The book's variant filter is used to select criteria values for a specific variation of the document.
When a book is filtered:
- Author-it locates any variants matching the criteria selection, then substitutes the primary object with the variant. Variants that match all of the selected criteria (when there are no other possible matches) are shown with the variant icon
. - Depending on the variant criteria used in the filter there may be situations when more than one object could be displayed in the book. If this happens Author-it uses the priority setting assigned to the criteria to decide which object is used. These objects are shown with the preferred match icon
. - If no variants are found matching the criteria set in the filter, the primary object remains in the book. These objects are shown with the primary icon
. - Standard objects always remain in the book because they have no variants. Standard objects are displayed with their regular object icon only.
To Filter a Book:
- Open the book and display the criteria filter. If the filter is collapsed, click on the arrow to expand it.

- Select the criteria then choose the relevant values from the drop-down lists.

- Choose Apply.
