Duplicating an Object in Live

There are a couple of major reasons why you'll need to duplicate existing objects:

  • To create an object that is similar to an existing one, faster than setting its properties from scratch. Choose an existing object which has similar settings, duplicate the object, and then change only the settings that are different.
  • To change one instance of an object differently than all other instances of the same object. Because Author-it lets you use objects in more than one place, you have to duplicate the object to be able to make changes in one place independently from other places.

Note: You cannot duplicate object templates.

To Duplicate an Object:

  1. Select the object you want to replace in the folder or search object list.
  2. Right-click and choose Duplicate, then choose Yes. Author-it creates an exact duplicate of the original object in the current folder, with "Copy of " inserted at the beginning of the object description, and a new object number.
  3. Change any settings, including the new object's Description, then save your changes.
