Opening a Library
Because an Author-it Library database contains all your document components, you'll need to open your Library so that you can start work.
You can only open one Library at a time, so if you are in a library you'll need to close it before you open another one.
Relevant User Options
There are two user account options (Author-it Button > Author-it Options > General) which affect how Libraries open for you:
- Select the Automatically open last library option. When you start Author-it the last Library that was used is selected and the Login window is displayed. Complete the Library Login window to open Author-it.
Note: You can also remove the checkmark from the Show this dialog on start up option in the Open/Create Library window.
- Select the Automatically login to library option. When you start Author-it the Open/Create Library window is displayed. After you select the library, Author-it automatically logs you in.
Note: You can also select the Automatic login using this name and password option on the Library Login window.
You can select one of the options, neither of the options, or both options. If you leave both options unselected, when you start Author-it the the Open/Create Library window is displayed, followed by the Library Login window. You must complete both windows before the library is opened. If you select both options, when you start Author-it the last library used is automatically selected, and you are logged in.
To Open an Author-it Library:
- Start Author-it. If the Show this dialog on start up option is selected, then the Open/Create Library window appears, listing Libraries you have recently opened.

- Select the Library you want to open from the list, or to see more Libraries, select Browse for more..., then find and select a Library file.
Note: If you are using Author-it with a SQL Server Library databases, only those databases that were opened using Windows NT/2000 trusted connections are shown.
- Choose OK. If you have the Automatically Login To Library option turned ON, then the Library opens immediately, and you are logged in with the last User Account you used with that Library. If you have the Automatically Login To Library option turned OFF, then the Library Login window opens.

If you know you'll be logging in to the same Library under the same User Account name, then you can turn on the Automatic Login feature by selelcting the checkbox before you login.

- Enter your User name and Password, then choose Login.
- After verifying that your name and password are valid, Author-it opens the Library and loads its contents into the Library Explorer, ready to work with.
