Specifying a Font Color

Colors can be defined using the name of the color or as hexadecimal code representing the color.

Names for 16 recognized colors can be used to define the color value for a style, including black, white, blue, green, red. The 16 colors are based on the VGA palette. There are a number of other named colors, but as they are not always rendered as expected in different browsers numeric and alphanumeric codes can be used to represent by the amounts of red, green, and blue (RGB) making up the color.

Most often hexadecimal code (alphanumeric) is used to identify a color. The hexadecimal code always begins with a hash character (#) and uses a combination of numbers (0-9) and letters (A-F). The six characters used for the code are actually three pairs of values used to represent the amount of Red, Green and Blue in the color. The browser uses the three values to recreate the color.
